SUICIDE PREVENTION IS A PRIORITY FOR BLACK MALES

SUICIDE PREVENTION ISA PRIORITY FOR BLACK MALES

Looking into suicide in its own is a massive world wide issue but if you take the time to divide the world into smaller sections you can how large the issue is in the smaller groups.

Suicide for men is own is a problem that isn’t talked about enough about in todays society. As society men are held to a higher standard to be brave, strong and tough and not show weakness or emotion, when in reality men are humans just as everyone else and are supposed to have depressive thoughts and emotions. To break it down even further we are going to talk about black men, the one big reason behind the reason black males doesn't ask for help is the intergenerational trauma in a way that we all have issues why should you bring attention your problems. This leads young black men to think their depressive thoughts should be hidden which by not speaking out their thoughts it tends to lead them to make decisions that affect their lives.

The two components from the Health Belief Model that I'm choosing to motivate a change are the Demographic Variables and the Barriers.

Demographic Barriers: In this component i chose to look at age, gender and ethnicity, by looking into all three of these its a small group compares to the world wide problem but in the smaller group your are able to see how many black males are affected by depression and suicide.

Barriers: This component is a massive reason on why people don’t get help when they are struggling    with depression and suicide. Most lower income areas do not have access to resources that would be able to help them either through, therapy, medication and even a friend who will  listen to their problem with out being judged.

I chose these two components because they are both the huge reason young black men are affected by depression and suicide and also the reason why they can feel helpless and alone. Just because someone lives in a lower income area or the color of their skin, should not matter when it comes to hwo they are feeling. They both can be used to motivate change by adding mental health resources into lower incomes communities and by getting resources that these young men will be able to trust, look up to and work with in efforts to help prevent the increase of suicide.
